  • On time means received by the fund by the end of this day. Allow for your clearing house or payroll software’s processing time.
  • Business days exclude weekends and any public holiday that covers a whole state or territory, wherever your business is.
  • A late payment means the ATO can assess a super guarantee charge for this payday. Paying the fund as soon as you can still reduces it.

How this works

The calculator counts forward from payday (payday itself is not counted), one business day at a time.

  • 7 business days for a regular payday, 20 for a first contribution. Out-of-cycle payments count from the next regular payday.
  • Skipped: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays that cover a whole state or territory, such as Northern Territory Picnic Day and Victoria’s AFL Grand Final Friday.
  • Counted as business days: regional holidays (Royal Queensland Show, Royal Hobart Regatta and Show, Tasmania’s Recreation Day and Easter Tuesday) and days where it is unclear whether the holiday covers the whole state (Melbourne Cup Day, Western Australia’s King’s Birthday, and the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve evening holidays). For those, the result also shows the later date.

Public holiday dates come from the Fair Work Ombudsman’s 2026 and 2027 lists, which draw on each state’s and territory’s published holidays. The calendar covers paydays from 1 July 2026 to the end of 2027. Victoria’s 2027 AFL Grand Final Friday hasn’t been set, so it is treated as uncertain.

Not included: exceptional circumstances determinations, which the ATO can make after natural disasters or widespread outages and which allow 20 business days.

Questions

When is super due under Payday Super?

For wages paid from 1 July 2026, the employee’s fund must receive the super guarantee contribution, with the information it needs to allocate it, within 7 business days after payday.

When do I get 20 business days?

For the first contribution for a new employee, the first contribution to a new fund after an existing employee changes funds, and the first contribution for someone you rehire. Their later paydays are back to 7 business days.

What counts as a business day?

Any day except a Saturday, a Sunday, or a public holiday for the whole of any Australian state or territory. A state-wide holiday anywhere in Australia is skipped even if you don’t operate there. A holiday in only part of a state, such as Royal Hobart Show Day, is still a business day.

How are Melbourne Cup Day and similar holidays treated?

Melbourne Cup Day and Western Australia’s King’s Birthday are observed on a different date in some regional areas, and the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve holidays in some states cover only the evening. It isn’t settled whether these count as whole-of-state holidays, so the calculator counts them as business days and shows the later date they would give. Paying by the earlier date is on time either way.

When is super due on a bonus or back pay?

A payment made outside the employee’s regular pay cycle, such as a bonus, commission or back pay, is due 7 business days after the next regular payday, together with that payday’s super.

What if two due dates overlap?

If a later payday’s due date falls before an earlier payday’s extended due date (for example, a new employee’s first and second paydays), the later payday’s super is due on the extended date too.
